The campus with a special event on February 17th. Representatives of the administration joined Lincoln students, faculty and staff to inaugurate the program, and Dr. Florence Gold, NASA HUNCH Implementation Project Manager, met personally with each Lincoln Tech student who will participate.
“We’re very pleased to welcome Lincoln Tech to the HUNCH team,” Dr. Gold said. “HUNCH is about students creating, designing and producing real-world, valued products for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. In return, students acquire 21st-century skills and develop a relationship with NASA that can build important professional connections. In fact, we have had students go on and work for the HUNCH program both full-time and through internships.”
Using specialized Computer Numerical Control equipment donated to the school by leading manufacturer Haas Automation, Inc., Lincoln Tech students will create parts for specially-designed storage lockers aboard the ISS. These storage lockers will hold scientific experiments conducted by NASA and other organizations from around the world. Students will build the studs, nuts and butterfly bolts that hold the lockers together, while also learning how to document their work according to NASA specifications.
